Meeting Notes 2-13-13
$50 Fugitive was great! People who volunteered at the lunch table did a great job passing out lollipops, which turned out to be a very effective way to get out the human trafficking facts! To keep the competition from ending too early next time, we talked about again having a second fugitive or limiting the amount of guesses students can make, possibly by having them submit paper slips.
The "Taken" movie screening is coming up on February 28th from 6:00-8:30. Asia will be posting information for those people who volunteered to make posters about what to do with them.
We started planning Jamnesty, which will be on May 3rd! We chose committees which will be posted soon. Talk to Brenna if you would like to be on a committee but were not able to attend the meeting.

Second fugitive on the loose!
Even though Rachel Davies discovered the first fugitive, the search is not over yet! There is a second fugitive on the loose! Correctly identify this fugitive to receive a $30 runner up Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts gift card. There will be two new facts and two new clues coming out tomorrow and Friday about the new fugitive, only these facts will allow you to identify the second fugitive. See the announcements for facts and clues. Good luck!
Meeting 1-30-13
Ellie and Kenneth are making steady progress on the Colonel article--they are waiting for it to be approved for an AIM activity.
Poster makers are needed to help promote the Taken screening. See Asia if you can help.
The $50 Fugitive competition will take place Feb. 4th-8th. Talk about it with your friends, in your classes, and on Twitter to spread the word!!

New LHS YUGA (Youth United for Global Action and Awareness) Chapter
Interested in doing more about global issues? A new club is starting at LHS called YUGA (Youth United for Global Action and Awareness) which will take action on global issues through raising awareness and supporting solutions to these problems. We will meet twice a month on Tuesdays after school in room 211. Check out our blog and come to our next Meeting on February 5 after school in room 211.
Trafficking in CT
Here are two articles about instances of human trafficking that occurred fairly recently in Connecticut:

Meeting Notes 12-19-12
Lots of progress is being made on all three of our projects!
Colonel Article: Ellie and Kenneth
Abby agreed to do an article about human trafficking for the March edition of the Colonel. Ellie and Kenneth will be working on collecting data about the slavery footprints of LHS students to use in the Colonel article. Hopefully, they will have students fill out paper surveys during AIM, then enter the information into the online quiz.
$50 Fugitive: Tess
You can find details discussed during the meeting in the $50 Fugitive posts. Katy, Becca, Fran, and Paige volunteered to make posters. Someone will try to get us permission to hang a big poster in the lobby. We decided one of the clues should be the definition of human trafficking.
"Taken" Movie Night: Asia
Asia has started planning for the movie night, but won't be doing much until after break, as movie night will be at the end of February. Anyone interested in making posters should contact her, though.
At the meeting we signed letters for Amnesty's Write for Rights campaign, to demand the release of two members of a Russian band, Pussy Riot, who sang a song which offended the government, and are now in labor camps. Find more info about the case and sign an online version of the letter here!

$50 Fugitive!
The $50 Fugitive group met on December 6th to plan for the project. Here are notes from the meeting:
- The competition won't be a scavenger hunt like some people were asking about at the activity period meeting where students have to go to multiple teachers to get clues. There will be one teacher who is the "fugitive".
- Tess will be the project leader
- We'll try to have competition the week of February 4th-8th
- No one from club can participate
- The clues should be vague at first and get harder
- Winner will get a $50 Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks gift card
- Promotion *hype up during week before
- Posters- Tess, Mikey
- Table at lunch with facts and clues (lolly pops-Sarah)
- MM and lunch announcements- have facts and clues posted daily
- Michela- intercom announcements
